The basic construction includes a cooling unit in the form of a heat exchanger consisting of double-wall cooling cylinders arranged in a row and axially parallel to one another. Their double-wall intermediate spaces can be connected to the line for the low-temperature cooling medium, and the underground-space air to be cooled can flow through their cylinder passage. The basic construction also includes at least one swirl tube with an axial cold-air outlet and a warm-air outlet. The swirl tube can be attached to the compressed-air line of the underground space. It is arranged with its cold-air outlet between the double-wall cooling cylinders of the cooling unit as a jet pump and is designed in such a way that the cooled air flow entrains further underground-space air to be cooled through the cylinder passages and the intermediate spaces of the adjacent double-wall cooling cylinders. <IMAGE>
