<p>The invention provides a weight sensitive pad for use with existing induction detectors. Compression of the pad by the weight of person at a pedestrian crossing, for example, slightly distorts a coil geometrically in relation to a sheet of magnetically susceptible material. A change of inductance in the coil may be detected and used to confirm the ongoing presence of the person for an automatic control system. A number of the pads may be used side by side to monitor the presence of people or other objects over a wide area.</p> |
