The invention relates to a method for controlling a generally known coin-operated gaming machine. The object on which the invention is based is to indicate a universal method for controlling a gaming machine of this type, by means of which all the wins can be achieved directly, irrespective of the particular indicator means used, the pay-out behaviour being established with the least possible dispersion in the desired ranges and an exact adherence to the individual events per number of games being guaranteeable. The solution according to the invention is characterised, in relation to the state of the art, in that the entire permissible number range, from which the random-number generator determines random numbers, is subdivided into a quantity of number groups, each of these number groups representing a specific win value. Subsequently, via the control device for the indicator means, which are of any design, each of these indicator means is controlled in such a way that the symbol combinations displayed correspond to the previously determined win value. According to an advantageous design alternative, the probability values for the respective win values can be displayed on the front.
