The invention relates to a welding head for a stud-welding device, with a piston (8) displaceably arranged in the axial direction in a pressure chamber (4). With a peripheral area (8c) of an area of larger diameter (8a), the piston (8) divides the inner area of the pressure chamber (4) into a chamber volume (4a) located in front of the area (8a) and a chamber volume (4b) located behind the area (8a) and essentially seals these chamber volumes (4a, 4b) from one another, in which arrangement a pressure medium can be fed to at least one of the chamber volumes (4a, 4b) via an opening in the pressure chamber (4). The piston is led out of the pressure chamber (4) in an essentially pressure-tight manner at least on one side and interacts with a stud holder (18) for a stud (3) to be welded.
