The invention relates to a process for the sterile filling of containers with a liquid filling material and to a filler for carrying out this process. The containers, before being filled, are treated for sterilization purposes with a sterilization medium emerging from an outlet orifice of a sterilization pipe. The treatment with the sterilization medium takes place as early as in an angular sector of the rotational movement of the filler in which the outlet orifice is still located outside the container and at a level above the container mouth.
