PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air-fuel ratio detector for an internal combustion engine detecting responsiveness of an air-fuel ratio sensor arranged in an exhaust pipe, especially an air-fuel ratio detector estimating the responsiveness of the air-fuel ratio sensor to the flow rate of exhaust gas. SOLUTION: An approximation formula calculating responsiveness of the air-fuel ratio sensor using the flow rate of exhaust gas as a parameter is calculated based on the flow rate of the exhaust gas and the responsiveness of the air-fuel ratio sensor when the flow rate of exhaust gas is detected. Thereby, the responsiveness of the air-fuel ratio sensor can be calculated from the flow rate of the exhaust gas without successively detecting the responsiveness of the air-fuel ratio sensor with respect to a change in the flow rate of the exhaust gas.
