PURPOSE: To quickly and efficiently recover oil spill contaminants from the surface of a body of water. CONSTITUTION: An oil spill contaminant recovery device 10 is provided with a suction blanket which can be deployed by a host vessel V. Compressed air is supplied from the pressurized air source of the vessel V to a manifold 20 through an air pipeline 18. The compressed air is divided to each suction line 24 from the manifold 20 and returns to a collection chamber 50 through an opening 37 in the blanket 12. Due to the venturi effect exhibited when the compressed air returns to the collection chamber 50, oil spill contaminants stored in a recessed section formed, for example, in the upper layer of the blanket 12 is sucked to the opening 37 through suction ports 38 and carried to the collection chamber 50 through the opening 37.
