PURPOSE:To make it possible to reduce significantly the stress load to optical fibers due to the temperature variation by constructing a composite aerial wire with metallic wires of specified alloy or the like of low linear expansion and optical fibers for communication. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber composite aerial wire is constructed with low linear expansion metallic strands 1, made of a base wire 1a mainly composed of iron-nickel family alloy or the like coated with surface layer 1b of aluminum coating or zinc plating and or which mean coefficient of linear expansion in 0-90 deg.C is less than 5.0X10<-6>/ deg.C and the coefficient of linear expansion is similar to that of the optical fiber, and optical fibers 4 enclosed in a spacer 3, provided with grooves, of aluminum or aluminum alloy tube 2. Thereby the elongation difference between the strands and fibers due to the temperature variation or flashing over can be decreased to reduce the stress load to the optical fibers. |
