A description is given of a process and an apparatus for the rapid transfer of transporting vessels, such as containers, demountable containers, semi-trailers, etc., from a railway train onto another means of transport. The object of the invention is to provide a process and an apparatus for carrying out the process, with the aid of which the loading of containers and interchangeable open bodies onto and/or from the rail is intended to be possible directly from the through tracks. This object is achieved in that the train stops, on its normal through track equipped with an electric overhead line, in a defined stopping region, the overhead-line piece is removed in the stopping region of the train, the transporting vessel or vessels which is/are to be changed is/are removed from the train or placed thereon, the removed overhead-line piece is put in place again and the train continues its journey.
