The invention relates to a device for separating out foreign bodies from a flow of leaf tobacco, whose components, separated in the form of a single layer, pass a foreign body separator. The object is to improve the efficiency of such a system. This is achieved by means of successive conveying means (4, 7), operated at increasing speed in the conveying direction (2) of which the first conveying means is designed as a vibrating conveyor (6) with a graduated bottom (13) and the second, faster-running conveying means consists of two superposed conveyor belts (8, 9), which form a conveying channel (11). The effect achieved is that the individual components of the tobacco flow are isolated, at a high conveying throughput, transversely and longitudinally to the conveying direction, to form a single layer of tobacco from which foreign bodies can readily be identified and separated out. <IMAGE>
