The blood pump consists of a housing (1), a rotor (2) mounted therein, and a magnetic rotary field drive (4). The housing (1) has a blood inlet nozzle (5), a blood outlet nozzle (6) and a nonmetallic wall (T). The rotor (2) mounted in the housing (1) consists of a rotor shaft (18) with bearings (L) and of the metallic or metallised rotor discs (19). When the blood pump is designed such that the pump is implanted in the body, for example on the chest wall under the skin (29), the magnetic rotary field drive (4) is supported for example by an undergarment (20) and is held over the housing (1), implanted in the body, on the side of the nonmetallic wall (T) so that the rotary field drive (4) effects a torque transmission as a result of the eddy currents induced in, for example, metallic rotor discs. The batteries (21), the control system (23) and the mains unit (22) are provided in the undergarment (20). Such an appliance can be used advantageously as a blood pump implanted in the body of a patient to assist or, where necessary, replace the heart. <IMAGE> |
