PURPOSE:To produce a new solvent having an SP value of 8 or above, a KB value of 300 or above, low toxicity, high solvency and a high boiling point and to provide a process for easily producing the solvent. CONSTITUTION:A solvent containing a compound of the general formula: ROCH2 CH2COOCH(CH3)2 [wherein R is 1-3 C alkyl] is provided. A solvent composition containing a compound of the formula is obtained by reacting methyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate with isopropanol in the presence of a basic catalyst. |
