<p>A light modulator, particularly for use as a printbar, comprises liquid crystal (6) sandwiched between two substrates (2, 4) bearing row and column electrodes (8, 18) respectively. The row electrodes are formed of a chrome black masking layer having ITO pixel windows (14). Masking strips (18) on the opposite substrate overlap with the spaces (20) between the row electrodes, and are insulated from the column electrodes (24) by an SiO2 layer (22). Thus the response time of the row electrodes is increased whilst the number of cross-overs of opposing black mask areas is miminised.</p> |
