In a known device, the articulation points of the links connecting to the feedbars are designed to be adjustable in an infinitely variable manner at the rocker lever of the cam mechanism in their distance from the fulcrum of the rocker lever. The alteration of the transmission function of the cam mechanism has a disadvantageous effect here. In another device, a multi-stage switching mechanism is arranged in the gear train between the cam mechanism and the feedbars. It must be regarded as a defect here that the number of switching stages is limited. The new device makes possible infinitely variable adjustment of the feed steps over a very large adjustment range and, at the same time, the transmission function of the cam mechanism is retained. The new device contains a multi-stage switching mechanism (10) for the stepwise setting of a preselectable adjustment range, the said mechanism being connected to the rocker lever (3) of the cam mechanism by way of a connecting rod (7) and a rack and pinion mechanism (8, 9). For infinitely variable fine adjustment within the preselected adjustment range, the articulation point of the connecting rod (7) on the rocker lever (3) of the cam mechanism can be adjusted in an infinitely variable manner in its distance from the fulcrum of the said lever. <IMAGE>
