The invention relates to a latch needle for machines for the production of knitted fabrics. The latch needle contains a shank (1) which has a longitudinal direction, a back (1a) and a longitudinal slot (latch slot) (3). The longitudinal slot (3) is limited by two elastically deformable shank cheeks which have top edges with bearing faces. Furthermore, the latch needle has a latch (4) which is mounted pivotably between the shank cheeks and which possesses a back having flanks matched to the bearing faces and, in their opened state, intended to interact with these. Finally, the latch needle is provided with a means, arranged underneath the bearing faces, for increasing the deformability of the shank cheeks, according to the invention this means consisting of a perforation (11) which completely separates the two shank cheeks and which is continuous from the bearing faces to the shank back (1a) (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
