Catalytic burner

The burner comprises a catalytic burner (3) which is arranged in the water space of a water heater (1) and is followed, in the direction of flow of the combustible-gas/air mixture, by a starting burner (4). An afterburner (5), likewise with catalytic action, follows. The starting burner (4) transmits its heat to the upstream slotted burner (3) which, given a sufficient operating temperature, starts with the reaction of the combustible-gas/air mixture. With largely catalytic combustion in the slotted burner (3), the combustion in the starting burner (4) is reduced until it eventually dies out.
