PURPOSE:To provide an electrode with enhanced contact performance with an electrolyte and a high discharge capacity by forming the electrode of non- circular cross sectional carbon fibers having specified symmetric property. CONSTITUTION:Polyacrylonitrile is used to obtain a non-circular shape fiber whose cross sectional shape has at least one symmetric surface passing the figure center thereof and has a rotation symmetric angle specified by theta=360/n, where unit is degree, (n) is an integer from 1 to 10. This polyacrylonitrile fiber is baked at 900-1500 deg.C to obtain a carbon fiber. In this carbon fiber, by enlargement of a specific surface area by means of deformed cross section forming and fibril in a surface, contact performance with an electrolyte is enhanced and a discharge capacity is increased. |
