Flexible cellular product with closed cells, of low cost of manufacture, obtained from a recovered material and a polyvinyl chloride dispersion

The invention consists in mixing a polyvinyl chloride dispersion (plastisol) with a recovered and ground polystyrene foam (Styropor). The mixture is deposited in a metal mould heated to the polymerisation temperature of the plastisol. At this temperature the Styropor sublimes and the plastisol hardens; closed cells are thus obtained in place of the sublimed Styropor particles. The density of the product can vary depending on the use for which it is intended. By employing certain adjuvants it is possible to make the plastisol lighter in weight, to make it self-extinguishable or to colour it. The process permits a low cost of manufacture because of the use of discarded and recovered Styropor, avoiding the destruction of the latter by fire and the emission of gas and toxic fumes and thereby reducing atmospheric pollution in marked proportions.
