PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a high quality metallic carrier excellent in durability by applying a joining inhibitor to the prescribed positions of the inside of an outer tube or the prescribed positions of the outside of a honeycomb body, housing the honeycomb body in the outer tube and carrying out brazing so that unjoined parts are formed at the prescribed positions between the honeycomb body and the outer tube. CONSTITUTION:Flat sheets 1a and corrugated sheets 1b each made of a heat resistant metal are alternately laminated or a flat sheet 1a and a corrugated sheet 1b are superposed and wound. The resulting honeycomb body 1 is housed in an outer tube 2 to obtain a metallic carrier. At this time, a joining inhibitor is applied to the prescribed positions of the inside of the outer tube 2 or the prescribed positions of the outside of the honeycomb body 1, the honeycomb body 1 is housed in the outer tube 2 and brazing is carried out with a brazing filler metal 3 so that unjoined parts are formed at the prescribed positions between the honeycomb body 1 and the outer tube 2. The outside of the honeycomb body 1 is prevented from sticking to the inside of the outer tube 2 by a diffusion joining reaction, joining can be carried out only at the prescribed positions and the objective high quality metallic carrier excellent in durability is efficiently produced. |
