A novel ZrO2-containing ceramic body is free of amorphous phases even at the grain boundaries and triple points, has a shrinkage of less than 5% as compared with its green compact and is obtainable by reaction-sintering of a green compact which has been formed from a mechanically alloyed mixture which contains or consists of at least 1% by volume of zirconium metal powder and at least 20% by volume of one or more metallic powders selected from the elements Mg, Al, Cu, Se, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Sr, Y, Nb, Ce, Hf or Ta and the oxides thereof and ZrO2, Na2O, K2O and Li2O. The body is suitable for use as a structural element in machine and equipment construction or in electronics as a functional element, and also as a solid electrolyte. |
