PURPOSE:To enable a joint of a printing medium to be prevented from being printed by a method wherein a printing head is not brought into contact with the joint when the joint passes by a printing area of a printing head. CONSTITUTION:When a cloth feed command is issued to a cloth feeder 3002, whether printing is located at a joint or not is judged. When it is not located at the joint, ordinary treatment is executed. When it is located at the joint, whether an ink jet head is above a cloth or not is judged. In an ink jet recorder 3001, whether cloth-feed is actually started or not is judged according to whether a signal comes to be at a high level or not after outputting a cloth feed request. When the cloth feeder 3002 does not start the cloth-feed, whether the ink jet head is located above the cloth or not is judged. When not located above the cloth, the printing head returns. When located above the cloth, the head advances to be returned in a carriage home positional direction. At a point of time when the head comes off above the cloth, a signal indicating that the head is not above the cloth is outputted. |
