The invention comprises a composition for the protection against environmental toxins and fungal diseases and for inhibiting transpiration in pots of plants, and also a treatment method herefor. For this purpose, there is employed a colloidal, aqueous silicic acid solution comprising 0.1 to 1.0 % by weight of monovalent metal cations and/or ammonium ions and/or 0.01 to 0.4% by weight of divalent metal cations and 0.1 to 6.0% by weight of aluminium compounds based on an SiO2 content of the colloidal silicic acid solution of 30% by weight, for stabilization purposes, and, if appropriate, wetting agents and adhesives. This composition is applied in finely divided form either preventively and/or to parts of plants, such as the foliage, wood, tubers, bulbs, fruits and seeds, which have been damaged by environmental factors or by phytopathogens.
