The invention relates to a process for the separation of material mixtures, especially refuse mixtures, by feeding the mixture onto a working surface which has an adjustable inclination and which is movable in such a way that different constituents of the mixture can be moved in different directions, by a monitoring of the separating operation and a control of the separating operation by means of sensors. The invention relates, furthermore, to an apparatus for carrying out the process.
