<p>A predictive disk cache system for use with a host computer tracks read and write requests in operation and builds sequence tables (23, 25), which are copied to non-volatile memory such as a disk drive (11) of the cache system. In one embodiment, the predictive cache system implements a cache (21) in system RAM (random access memory) (17), updates sequence tables in RAM, and copies the tables to the disk drive at low priority. On start-up, the predictive disk cache system loads ahead of any application or secondary operating system to maximize disk activity during a run period. After loading, the system accesses the sequence tables previously built and stored, and follows sequences written therein in loading files from the disk drive.</p> |
