A material feeding apparatus having a material container, serving as a feeding hopper, serves the purpose of feeding moulding compound, sealed in the material container, to a moulding machine via a heating jacket. The material feeding apparatus comprises as the most important components a material container, which is formed from a transparent or translucent synthetic resin and in which an amount of moulding compound still in the material container can be visually checked from outside, and also an adaptor, the one end of which is designed in the form of an open end part which can be screwed into an opening region of the material container, and the other end of which is designed as an open end part for fitting onto a receiving element of the moulding machine. To be able to open and reclose the interior of the material container, a shutter is arranged in the adapter in a slidingly displaceable manner. In practical use, the material container is fitted upside-down over the adaptor onto the receiving element and can thus serve as a feeding hopper. Since the small material container with the sealed moulding compound contained inside can also be used as a feeding hopper, material monitoring and changing of the material can be carried out quickly, without any need for drying the moulding compound before each moulding operation.
