<p>Described is the use of physiologically compatible tocopherols, in particular vitamin E, as inhibitors against premature initiation of polymerization in reaction systems, capable of radical-initiated polymerization, which are brought, before and/or after polymerization, in contact with, and in particular implanted in, living human or animal body tissue. The reaction systems, or the polymers formed by them, can be degradation-resistant. In a particularly important embodiment, however, appropriate compositions or moulded products are used which are broken down, in particular absorbed over a controlled period, by the living body. The invention also concerns surgical bonding agents suitable for bonding body tissue, these agents being based on a radical-activated adhesive component which is used mixed with a radical inhibitor. The bonding agents are characterized by the fact that the inhibitor, or the greater part of it, is vitamin E. The preferred compositions are those described, free of physiologically undesirable solvents and production-related solvent residues.</p> |
