Chromic oxide coatings by thermal decomposition of chromic acid anhydride (CrO3)

A diamond, ceramic, metal, or metal alloy surface is coated with molten CrO3. The coated surface is then heated in air at a temperature of from about 200 DEG C. to 250 DEG C. until the molten CrO3 coating is converted into a black, powdery adherent coating of CrO.
