PURPOSE: To provide a microwave transmitting means effective for coupling of microwave energy to a cavity in an electrodeless lamp, by using bulb filling substance which works to provide more uniform radiation, and requires more uniform field. CONSTITUTION: A microwave lamp has a cylindrical cavity consisting of a solid metal part 14 and a mesh part 13, a bulb 12 containing filling substance which can be excited is arranged in the cavity, and light emitted from the bulb is taken outside from the cavity through the mesh. Slots for coupling 9, 10 are arranged in the solid cylindrical part with about 90 deg. apart each other. Microwave energy with about the same amplitude is supplied to the slots from a microwave supply source 3, and the microwave energy has a phase shift of about 90 deg. at each slot. As a result, a field generated rotates on the inside surface of a lamp body to be surrounded and a lamp surrounding body while being having a fixed amplitude, and the field has a rotation symmetry shape around a vertical axis of the surrounding body. |
