The invention relates to a process for stabilizing metastable material, the metastable material between form press pieces being subjected to a pressure shock. The invention further relates to an apparatus for stabilizing metastable material, incorporating form press pieces 1,2,3,4 which can be detachably joined together with one another and within which a hollow chamber 5 is formed in which the metastable material is placed, and shell pieces 6,7,8,9,10 which can be detachably joined together with one another and within which a blast chamber 11 is formed, inside which the form press pieces and the metastable material, as well as the explosive 12 which surrounds the form press pieces, are placed; and a detonator 13; so that when the explosive is blasted with the aid of the detonator, the pressure shock, through the agency of the form press pieces, is directed towards the metastable material for stabilization of the same and then discharged outwards as the shell pieces become mutually detached. <IMAGE>
