PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and efficient compact self-ballasted fluorescent lamp, where main amalgam and auxiliary amalgam are arranged in an arc tube, having excellent light flux buildup characteristic by improving light flux buildup characteristic just after the lamp is lit. SOLUTION: The fluorescent lamp comprises main amalgams and auxiliary amalgams 15, 16, 17, and 18 in an arc tube 1. Means are provided which allow a discharge current to flow in the auxiliary amalgams 17 and 18 arranged in a discharge path except for a tube end of the arc tube. As a specific example of the means, positive temperature characteristics resistance elements 29 and 30 are connected between lead wires 9 and 11 holding the electrode at the tube end of the arc tube and lead wires 19 and 20 holding the auxiliary amalgams. Heating of the auxiliary amalgams 17 and 18 at lighting of the lamp is accelerated so that mercury is more quickly evaporated and diffused. |
