A machine produces counted stacks of sheets of paper, cardboard etc. As the sheets emerge from a folding machine they are counted off by a light barrier device and are diverted from their original direction of movement by means of a preset oblique conveyor; the arrangement uses belts running beneath or both beneath and above the feed tables to form stacks for book-binding machinery. A driven roller runs at an angle of about 7 deg. across the feed direction and has rings running between the belts; the top of these rings is level with the top of the lower belt; the rings can also engage rollers revolving above when required, and the light barrier device is mounted just before or after the oblique roller. The rings concerned are preferably rubber or polyurethane. ADVANTAGE - The machine diverts the sheets in an accurate manner so that the stacks are counted exactly. It does so precisely as arranged by the preset control system.
