A driving-pulley lift system comprises a counterweight 2 suspended so that it can slide along counterweight guides 11, and a lift cage 1 arranged to slide along lift guides 10, also the lift's drive machinery 6 with cable-grooved drive pulleys 7 lying against the support cables 3 which are placed in the counterweight 2. The thickness of the counterweight 2 with drive machinery 6, perpendicular to the perpendicular distance between the counterweight guides 11, is considerably less than the width of the counterweight 2 in the direction of the said perpendicular spacing. The thickness will preferably be less than half the width. <IMAGE>
