The cam is made in one piece from a plastic pref. polyoxymethylene and has at least one flexible clip (13) which allows it to be attached to one or more links of a roller chain. The clips are shaped so that they do not completely surround the chain rollers (12), ensuring that the surface of the chain is left exposed. The body of the cam (11) can be made solid or hollow; and has sloping ends, and can operate a switch (25) by means of a lever (21) and roller, for example.
