In order to determine the ductile tear strength of a material subjected to an increasing tensile load, a rectangular plane test-piece (10) is produced comprising a calibrated notch (14) which has two parallel and bevelled straight edges. This test-piece (10) is placed in a traction (tensile testing) machine in order to apply a load to it in a direction perpendicular to the straight edges of the notch (14). The separation between the edges of the notch is measured using a laser micrometer (24, 26, 28) with plane sweeping. Each separation measurement is acquired, with the value of the load which corresponds to it, when the separation is stabilised. The extension of the test-piece by a given step is then caused. <IMAGE> |
