An actuating means (17) for a hydraulically actuated motor vehicle friction clutch (1), includes an hydraulic master cylinder (21) and an electric motor (19) connected together as a subassembly, the spindle (31) of the motor acting through a screw drive (27) on the piston (37) of the master cylinder (21) to translate rotation of the motor into axial movement of the master cylinder piston (37). The motor spindle (31), the screw drive (27) and the master cylinder (21) are arranged coaxially. The screw drive (27) includes a threaded spindle (39) formed as an integral extension of the motor spindle (31) and a nut (41) formed as an internal screw thread in a central bore (43) in the piston (37). The threaded spindle (39) projects into the bore (43) of the piston (37). A compensating spring (51) in the form of a coil compression spring round the threaded spindle (39) acts between the piston (37) and the motor (19). <IMAGE>
