PURPOSE:To enable a lamp re-lighted instantaneously after lighting off by applying a commercial AC to both ends of a bypass capacitor, turning two thyristers on alternately in accordance with the polarity of an AC power supply, and generating starting pulses to a high voltage pulse generating transformer. CONSTITUTION:In a low voltage side discharge circuit of a high voltage pulse generating transformer PT, when a thyrister S1 is turned on near a positive peak value of an AC power supply E, a quick discharge current flows through a closed circuit on the right side of a bypass capacitor CP. At this time, an induction current is generated because of inductances such as L1, L2 in the discharge circuit, and when the discharge current becomes zero, the current starts flowing in an inverse direction in the closed circuit. However, because the thyrister S1 prohibits the current, a negative voltage is generated at capacitors C1, C2. Next, by putting on a thyrister S2 close to a negative peak value of the power supply E, the same phenomenon occurs in the opposite direction. By repeating this, a discharge voltage can be set twice or more of the power supply voltage peak value. |
