The present invention relates to a method for marking animals during the treatment of same, characterised by the steps of: a) ensuring apparatus (1) capable of retaining a marking substance is attached to a treatment device (5), for use in treating the animals, and b) treating the animals with the treatment device (5) so that during the treatment process some of the marking substance is transferred from the apparatus (1) to the animals.
