PURPOSE:To provide an ink jet recording apparatus preventing recording defect, capable of obtaining high-grade recording without contaminating the circumferential part or a material to be recorded by the emission of ink and capable of contributing to the enhancement of throughput for recording and the miniaturization of the apparatus. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet recording apparatus is equipped with the wiping member 1306 for removing ink from the ink emitting surface of a recording head 20 emitting ink to a material to be recorded and a control means 1000 performing the recovery operation emitting ink from the recording head 20 at the position bringing the wiping member 1306 after the completion of the removal of ink into contact with the ink emitting surface.
