The invention relates to a retaining element which is fastened on a base by means of a nail in the form of a fire-in bolt. According to the invention, the retaining element (1) exhibits a fastening body (3) with a bore (7) in which the nail (12) is guided. Located towards the head of the nail (12) with respect to the fastening body (3) is a sleeve (4) which, for its part, is arranged within a clearance (5) in the retaining element (1). The sleeve (4) is deformed uniformly by the nail (12), in dependence on the depth to which the nail (12) penetrates into the base, when the retaining element is fitted. Consequently, the retaining element (1) is retained fixedly on the base with the use of a relatively uniform force. Preferably, the retaining element (1) with its specific securing means (2), the fastening body (3) and the sleeve (4) is a homogeneous plastic injection moulding. <IMAGE>
