PURPOSE:To permit tunnels facing each other to be connected with good accuracy by a method in which a position-detecting substance is packed into a preceding pit excavated by one of two shield excavators and detected by a sensor provided to the other excavator for controlling the directions. CONSTITUTION:For one of two shield excavators 1 and 2 having cutter heads 1b and 2b on the front ends of shield machines 1a and 2a, which come after excavating tunnels from both sides, and excavator 3 to excavate a guide pit 3 is provided so that it can freely come out or in the front face of the head 1b. The guide pit 3 is further excavated by the turning of the screw blade 6 of the excavator 4 and packed with a position-detecting substance A. A sensor 7 is provided to the head 2b of the other excavator 2, and the excavation is made while detecting the substance A for controlling the direction. The tunnels can thus be connected with good accuracy. |
