The lithium cell is activated when its temperature is in the range 100 to 250 degrees. The cell has an anode of a lithium base, a cathode, and an electrolyte integrated in a carrier structure. The electrolyte is formed of a solvent and a lithium salt. The anode material is chosen from lithium, a lithium alloy or lithium in a metallic carrier structure. The salt in the electrolyte is chosen from the lithium salts and eutectic mixtures based on lithium salts. The solvent is dimethylsulfone. The proportions in the electrolyte are between 0.3 and 3 moles of salt per kilogram of solvent. USE/ADVANTAGE - Thermally activated cell that operates at moderate temperatures and can support moderate load for time exceeding 20 minutes, for use in security or spatial applications. |
