Method for equalising a data block (B) on reception in a time-division multiple access (TDMA) communications system. On reception of the block (B), the pulse response of the channel on which this block was transmitted is estimated, a set (P) of reception parameters is evaluated, on the basis of the said set (P) of parameters, an optimal length (Nopt) of the block is determined, and, if this optimum length (Nopt) is less than the actual length (N) of the block (B), tracking (PO) of the variations in the channel is undertaken.
