A method of preheating oil for an oil burner with an atomiser (7), in which oil delivered by a pump (2), during a preheating time before the burner operation, is fed via the preheater (5) to the suction side of the pump (2) while bypassing the atomiser (7), and an apparatus for carrying out the method are specified.
