In the radish cutter which is represented, the material which is to be cut, the radish or radishes, lies on a transporting carriage which is driven by a transporting worm (11) by means of the crank (18) which is represented or any other suitable rotational drive. In this arrangement, the transporting apparatus can be displaced by a hand crank (18), by way of various drive pulses, on the one hand by means of the crank (18), via the driveshaft (9) directly, and, on the other hand, by means of the material which is to be cut, said material, as transmission medium, transferring the rotational movement into a translation movement with the aid of the cutters. In this arrangement, the two drive media are supported against one another and are thus protected against the failure of one type of drive. The force transmission from the rotating drive parts to the translatory drive parts is also thereby ensured, the material which is to be cut again serving as coupling medium. The result is constant operational reliability and freedom from hazard as regards the cutting apparatus. <IMAGE>
