In the case of the facade system (10), small-format wall-cladding elements are received on a substructure fitted on an anchorage base, the wall-cladding elements forming joints in the process. The wall-cladding elements, which are designed, in the manner of facing engineering bricks, as plate-like plastic one-quarter bricks (14), are fastened by means of retaining elements which are fitted in a concealed manner on the rear of the one-quarter bricks and are themselves catch members which are resilient to a restricted degree, engage behind parts of the substructure in a positively locking manner when in the mounted position and permit the mounting of one-quarter bricks by straightforward clipping-in. The substructure may comprise sheet-metal panels (12) which are fitted adjacent to one another on a structure wall and have receiving means (13) for the wall elements arranged in them at a predetermined unit spacing. <IMAGE>
