Load-bearing construction for a motor vehicle steering device

A description is given of a load-bearing construction for a steering device with a load-bearing part for the steering assembly, which part runs transversely in a vehicle body and is connected to rigid side parts of the body which are substantially deformation-proof during a frontal impact. The load-bearing construction furthermore comprises a supporting-bracket device which is attached, in order to support front and rear regions of the steering column, to the load-bearing part for the steering assembly and is supported by the latter. The supporting-bracket device is connected releasably to a body part which can be deformed rearwards during a frontal impact, and it is possible for the body part to be detached from the supporting-bracket device if in the body part a deformation is caused which is directed rearwards.
