RECUMBENT TOTAL BODY EXERCISER

This invention is a recumbent exercise device (10) which provides lower body, upper body and cardiovascular conditioning. The device includes a frame having a seat (28) supported toward the rear thereof. A pair of leg assemblies (54, 55) and a pair of arm assemblies (56, 57) are pivotally supported by the frame for movement about a transverse pivot axis. The arm and leg assemblies are positioned generally toward the forward end of the frame and each includes an upward and forward extending lever with the leg assemblies terminating in pedals (76, 77) and the arm assemblies terminating in handles (70, 71). The arm and leg assemblies are connected to each other for contralateral movement. A resistance mechanism (110) is coupled to the arm and leg assemblies to provide resistance to their movement of the pivot axis. An open area is defined above the frame between the seat and the arm and leg assemblies to permit step-through access to the seat regardless of the arm and leg assembly positions.
