In order to determine residual static shift in common midpoint gather seismic data with reduced likelihood of cycle skips, a pilot stacked trace is formed by stacking the individual common midpoint traces after NMO and possibly DMO. Each of the traces is cross-correlated with the pilot stacked trace and the correlation function is modified by being progressively decreased on either side of a time value which is equal to the weighted sum of static shifts for geographically adjacent traces. These steps may be repeated. The static shift is determined as the time shift of the maximum of the modified correlation function. <IMAGE> |
