PURPOSE:To obtain a picture of proper exposure without either providing with a private lighting fixture as a light source or giving an uncomfortable feeling to a speaker as the object or the like by using light emitted from the monitor screen of a picture display device as the light source. CONSTITUTION:A monitor screen 1 of a visual telephone equipment has the display area divided into three picture display areas, namely, an other-party picture display area 102, a self picture display area 103, and an operation menu display area 104, and an illumination area 101 as a blank part. The brightness and the color of light emitted from the illumination area 101 are changed to use this area 101 as the light source for lighting on the speaker as the object. If a picked-up image is short of exposure, the screen is made brighter; and if it is excess exposure, the brightness of the screen is changed to darken the screen. White is used as the fundamental color of light emitted from the monitor screen as the light source, but the color is changed as desired by the speaker. |
