This device for adjusting the tension of a belt is characterised in that it includes means (6) for causing the belt (1) to vibrate at a frequency equal to the resonant frequency of the belt for a given tension, means (12) for measuring the corresponding vibration of the belt, means (15, 16) for analysing this vibration in order to detect that the belt has gone into resonance, and means for adjusting the tension of the belt. <IMAGE>
